Hi, If your mattress is too firm and you want to add cushion this would be a good idea but in will not solve the dip in the middle. My mattress was too firm and my hips hurt so I got a memory foam topper and it solved the problem. http://www.bestratedmattresses.com/foam-… Hope this helps.

I agree with first answer. The foam toppers, I have some, don’t do anything for support, they only make the mattress softer. And if put on a sagging mattress, they will just sag into the depression already there.
For support you need to buy a new firm mattress. Then you can put a memory foam topper on it to keep it soft, but the new mattress will keep it from sagging.

  • Topper on a sagging mattress is definitely not the solution. As mentioned it will sag into the depression.
However a board will not fix the problem either. It will only speed up the process of wear since the boxspring cannot properly absorb energy. If you have a foundation that doesn’t give the plywood would do the same thing as the non giving foudation.
Second a firm mattress does not necessarily help a bad back. That is a very old school approach to what good support is. A mattress with good support is standard on most premium mattress sets giving the average person all they need. The hardness or softness of the surface is a personal preference. Many hard surfaces create painful pressure points that can be painful and cause you to readjust throughout the night.

The main problem is probably the “sunk in the middle” situation. A firm mattress is what’s usually recommended for back trouble.
My advice: Put what you’d spend on a mattress topper toward a good-quality new mattress and matching springs.
Or get hold of a flat piece of plywood a few inches smaller all round than your mattress. Put duct tape all around the edges so it doesn’t shred your mattress and springs, and place it between your mattress and springs to firm up your sagging mattress. It’s not the ideal solution, but at least it would be an inexpensive one.
